Evaluations Standardization Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to streamline and standardize all course and educator evaluation forms across all four years of the Bridges Curriculum.
Overview
Evaluations of core educational experiences are essential for continuous quality improvement and curriculum decision making, while evaluations of educators serve to guide teaching improvements and faculty promotion decisions. The Educational Evaluations Unit in the School of Medicine oversees all educator, course, and clerkship evaluations in the Bridges Curriculum and ensures that evaluations are implemented in a consistent, robust, and efficient manner to ensure quality data collection and prevention of evaluation fatigue.
Principles
Bridges Curriculum evaluation policies and procedures should:
1. Provide the School of Medicine with the important information needed to guide curricular decision making that:
a. Meets the needs for continuous quality improvement of the curriculum;
b. Provides in-depth, dynamic data on the initial implementation phase of the curriculum.
2. Meet institutional needs, such as course director decision making and teaching faculty promotion and tenure requirements.
3. Follow sound and rigorous evaluation principles and methods.
4. Be compliant with the accreditation standards on evaluation set forth by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
Policy
All evaluation forms will have standardized items that include some or all of the following:
- LCME-mandated items
- Core curricular decision-making items
- Supplemental items
- An overall effectiveness item
- An open-ended comments item
