Affiliations with Healthcare Organizations that Have Adopted Policy-Based Restrictions on Care

UC Regents Policy 4405

UC’s academic health centers and health professional schools have affiliations with other health care organizations to improve quality and access for the people of the state of California, particularly those in medically underserved communities, and to support UC’s research and public service mission.

Some of these organizations restrict certain evidence-based health care services. We affiliate with health systems that may restrict care only after we consider the implications for our patients, providers, and the diverse educational experiences for our students, residents and other trainees.

UC and UCSF expect that UC employees and trainees will deliver evidence-based health care services and, in those locations where a required service cannot be delivered, appropriate referrals or transfers must be made. If at any time a UC employee or trainee is asked to do otherwise, or a patient has a complaint, the University should be immediately informed as described in this August 18, 2023 announcement

Non-Discrimination Policy

In accordance with Federal and State law and University policy, the University of California does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, or disability. For detailed information, please visit the Office of Diversity and Outreach.

Professional Student Immunization Requirements

Requisite Standards for Admission

In order to become sound and knowledgeable medical practitioners, medical students must have observational, communicative, motor, conceptual/integrative/quantitative and behavioral abilities that will allow them to complete medical school requirements in a dependable manner. For additional information, please also review the School of Medicine's Student Selection Admissions policy and our Technical Standards policy for completion of the MD Degree.

Technical Standards

The MD degree is a broad undifferentiated degree attesting to general knowledge in medicine and the basic skills required for the practice of medicine. Essential abilities and characteristics required for completion of the MD degree consist of certain minimum physical and cognitive abilities and sufficient mental and emotional stability to assure that candidates for admission, promotion, and graduation are able to complete the entire course of study and participate fully in all aspects of medical training. Review the School of Medicine's Technical Standards policy describing these required skills.
