PROF-PATH: Promoting Research Opportunities Fully-Prospective Academics Transforming Health
PROF-PATH (formerly funded by NIH, the School of Medicine Dean’s Office and Inquiry Program), is supported by the HRSA-funded UCSF Latinx Center of Excellence. We support UCSF medical students who are underrepresented in medicine regardless of research area focus, and students interested in health disparities research regardless of background. PROF-PATH’s six-week summer program accepts 15 students per year and provides a stipend and mentored research with weekly Careers-in-Progress sessions that allow for dedicated curriculum time and community building. The UCSF PROF-PATH program is led by UCSF LCOE faculty Dr. Alicia Fernandez and Dr. Alma Martinez.
PROF-PATH is awarded once annually in April, as part of the Inquiry Funding Office Summer Explore application process. If awarded, grants include:
- $4,500 stipend, distributed in June.
- Participation in Summer Explore Symposium in December.
- Eligibility for Short-Term Dean's Prize.
- Must select a UCSF mentor. If the project is away from UCSF, there must be both an on-site mentor AND a UCSF mentor.
- Application must meet the minimum standards of the review committee and be submitted on time.
- Must be first year medical student or first year of entry from the Joint Medical Program (JMP).
- Academic projects from all Domains of Science are eligible for funding, however, must be supported by a UCSF faculty mentor. We support UCSF medical students who are underrepresented in medicine regardless of research area focus, and students interested in health disparities research regardless of background.
- Project must be carried out full-time and continuously throughout length of program.
This is a UCSF Funding Source dispersed by the Inquiry Funding Office.
