The ASH Minority Medical Student Award Program (MMSAP)

Purpose
The American Society of Hematology provides minority medical students with hematology research experience and mentorship in the lab of an ASH member.
Details

Mentor request form deadline: November. Application deadline: January 15.

  • A $5,000 stipend to support their summer research experience
  • A $1,000 travel allowance to attend the ASH annual meeting
  • $1,000 after the ASH annual meeting for presenting their research at the Promoting Minorities in Hematology event

Requirements
  1. Applicants must be in enrolled in a MD, DO, or MD/PhD medical school program and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada. Applicants who are within their first or second year of medical school may apply as summer research students, while those within their first, second, or third year of medical school have the option of applying as flexible research students. Program participants must complete the research project through the following 8 to 12-week options:
  2. Summer research experience for first and second year medical students to be conducted during the summer break.
  3. Flexible research experience for first, second, or third year medical students, to be completed over the course of a year (approximately 320-480 hour commitment).
