Academy Membership and Application

Dr. Poncelet use regular AME meetings to introduce members to interactive faculty development opportunities.

The Academy has 256 members from the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.

Academy members represent seven core teaching sites: East Bay, UCSF Fresno, Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Parnassus, ZSFG, and SFVAMC - and 29 interprofessional, clinical, and basic science departments at UCSF. The membership ranges from assistant to full professor and includes ladder, in-residence, clinical X, clinical, adjunct, and emeritus faculty.

Members are expected to be active citizens of the Academy by participating in Academy governance, programs and events and furthering our mission throughout the broader teaching community. Academy members serve as mentors to faculty, across the health professions education continuum, including students, residents, and other faculty interested in developing as educators. They assist courses, clerkships, and departments in strengthening their teaching upon request.

The Academy selects new members annually. Candidates prepare an application comprised an educator's portfolio, a diversity, equity and inclusion statement, and letters of support. Members must be excellent direct teachers of students, residents fellows, and/or of other teachers/educators, and must also demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in one additional educational role: mentoring and advising, curriculum development and instructional design, educational leadership, or learner assessment.
