Information for New Medical Students
Timeline
- February: ACCEPTED TO UCSF. Information for accepted applicants can be found in the Additional Information tab of the Applicant Portal. In addition to submitting the Technical Standards, applicants should complete the Certiphi background check, and submit final official transcripts. Applicants who are currently enrolled in coursework should send in-progress transcripts and also send final transcripts once grades are received.
- FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION: Applicants invited to interview are encouraged to begin the financial aid application process. Once applicants are notified of a decision, they should submit their College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile.
Please refer to information about the financial aid application process and timeline on the UCSF Financial Aid webpage. - April: ACCEPTED STUDENTS WEEKEND (ASW). The weekend is an opportunity to learn more about UCSF, meet your future classmates, and have time to explore San Francisco.
- April 15: Applicants with multiple acceptances should only hold three acceptance decisions.
- April 30: Applicants should only hold one acceptance. If you are still holding an acceptance with UCSF, please select Plan to Enroll in AMCAS.
- July 1: Commit to Enroll deadline. Applicants who select Commit to Enroll must withdraw from all institutions, including waitlist positions.
- Late June: You will receive an email introducing you to the STUDENT EXPERIENCE TEAM (SET) that will include information on virtual and in-person orientation events and a link for the Clinical Microsystems Clerkship (CMC) survey.
- July 17- August 4: ONLINE ORIENTATION: This online course will help ensure a smooth transition to medical school by providing information on program logistics, academic expectations, and School of Medicine and UCSF resources. Additionally, this is where you will complete your mandatory Basic Science Checkpoints as well as several other modules and assignments.
- August 7 - 11: LAUNCH WEEK: This week is the first mandatory, in-person, synchronous week that requires you to be in San Francisco. It is filled with required informational sessions, community building activities, and training sessions, as well as several social events where you will get a chance to meet other UCSF students and classes.
- New Student Holds. All new students will have the following holds listed in their Student Portal. For a list of holds and which offices to contact, please see below:
- Transcript Hold – Admissions Office (holds will start to be released in July)
- Student Health Hold – Student Health and Counseling Services
- Statement of Legal Residence Hold – Office of the Registrar
- Financial Aid Hold – Office of Student Financial Services
- August: WHITE COAT CEREMONY: In-person ceremony signifying your entrance into the medical profession.

Financial Aid
Applicants are encouraged to start the financial aid application process early. You can access the UCSF Financial Aid website to learn about the financial aid application process, view a sample student budgets, and other useful information. Accepted applicants who have completed the financial aid application process can expect to receive an award letter in late March.
Student Experience Team/Orientation
The Office of Admissions will now pass you along to your Student Experience Team (SET). In early June, SET will be in touch with each of you regarding health clearance, personal information, Online Orientation and Launch Week. Please keep your contact information current in both the Student Portal and via AMCAS, and check your e-mail often.
