Announcing Lorriana Leard, MD, as Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education (CME) Starting April 1

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lorriana Leard, MD, as Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education (CME), effective April 1, 2023.

Dr. Leard is a Professor of Medicine who joined the faculty in 2006 after completing her Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship and an additional subspecialty fellowship in Lung Transplantation at UCSF. She pursued further training in medical education in the UCSF Teaching Scholars Program. In 2011, she was selected to join the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators.

Dr. Leard’s leadership in the Center for Faculty Educators has allowed her to gain valuable experience in developing continuing education courses for a diverse group of health professionals. Through her leadership of the Teach for Education Leadership Certificate, she has worked closely with course developers to incorporate new models of content delivery and is currently reviewing courses through an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens to foster an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

Dr. Leard is Vice Chief of Clinical Operations for the UCSF Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine and past president of the California Thoracic Society. Dr. Leard has also served as a member of various committees, including the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American College of Chest Physicians Maintenance of Certification Workgroup, Co-Chair of the California Thoracic Society Education Committee, and the Education Oversight Committee for the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. She is an Editorial Board Consultant for the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. These experiences have provided her with insight into the development of and accreditation processes required for CME courses.
