We are excited to announce the appointment of Kristina Sullivan, MD, as Director of Education and Assessment for Graduate Medical Education (GME), beginning July 1, 2022. Dr. Sullivan is replacing Dr. Erick Hung who provided exceptional leadership in this role.

Dr. Sullivan has tremendous experience in medical education and will bring this experience to advance our curriculum development, faculty development, and assessment processes in GME at UCSF.

Dr. Sullivan grew up in Seattle, attended Santa Clara University for college, and graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1999. She returned to the West Coast and completed an internal medicine residency at Stanford in 2002 and an anesthesia residency at UCSF in 2005. She continued her training at UCSF, completing fellowships in critical care medicine and cardiac anesthesia. Since joining the faculty in 2007, she has taken on several education leadership positions. She served as the Anesthesia PISCES Clerkship Director, the Advanced Anesthesia Clerkship Director, and the Associate Director for Anesthesia Clerkships. In 2008 she was named as the Anesthesia Internship Director and a year later became the sole Associate Program Director for the residency. She served in these roles until 2019 when she became the Anesthesia Residency Program Director and the Associate Chair for Education in her department. She was inducted into the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators (AME) in 2014 and has held the AME Sol Shnider Endowed Chair for Anesthesia Education since 2018.

In her role as Director of Education and Assessment for GME, Dr. Sullivan will lead GME-wide initiatives in curriculum development and faculty development that benefit trainees across specialties and advance resident/fellow learning in the Clinical Learning Environment. She will work to support programs in the assessment of residents and fellows, advancing equitable assessment methods, and serve as a local education expert to support program directors, core faculty, and program administrators.

Dr. Sullivan is an exceptional physician and leader, and a gifted educator. We look forward to her outstanding job as Director of Education and Assessment for GME.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sullivan to her new role!
