New EJE Works-in-Progress to Empower and Elevate the Dialogue on Equity and Justice in Education
Since its inception, the Equity and Justice in Education (EJE, pronounced “edge”) Works-in-Progress meetings provide a supportive and welcoming forum to promote and guide educational scholarship on equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion health sciences education. The monthly meetings empower educators, education researchers, and learners to utilize rigorous education research methodology to identify bias and unequal power distribution to advance equitable and inclusive solutions in opportunity and achievement across the continuum of health sciences education. Monthly Equity and Justice in Education Works-in-Progress Meetings - Starts October 6
The Center for Faculty Educators will host Equity and Justice in Education (EJE), pronounced (“edge”) Works-in-Progress meetings which empower educators, educational researchers, and learners to utilize rigorous educational research methodology to identify bias and unequal power distribution to advance equitable and inclusive solutions in opportunity and achievement across the continuum of health sciences education.

Denise Davis Appointed VP of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion for Academy on Communication in Healthcare
Academy of Medical Educators member and Teaching Scholar Program graduate, Denise Davis, MD, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Academy on Communication in Healthcare to serve as VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Dr. Davis is the 2018 recipient of the Chancellor Award for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership and has been a member of the Academy of Medical Education since 2015, were she has also worked on Academy initiatives around diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. Davis also graduated from the CFE's Teaching Scholar Program in 2016.
Academy Member Spotlight: Sharon Youmans, PharmD, MPH
I recently interviewed new member Sharon Youmans, PharmD, MPH, to reflect on her education journey and current curricular changes in the School of Pharmacy.
Sharon is Vice Dean and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and responsible for administrative oversight of the PharmD program, including Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, Student Affairs, Educational Support Services, and Assessment and Accreditation. Denise Davis and Amber Fitzsimmons Receive Chancellor Awards for Diversity
Teaching Scholars Program (TSP) Graduates and Academy members Denise Davis, MD and Amber Fitzsimmons, DPTSc, PT are among the faculty recipients and of the 2018 Chancellor Awards for Diversity. Each year these awards recognize and honor UCSF faculty, staff and student/resident/postdoctoral scholar who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion beyond the scope of their job, area of research, or training.
