Non-Standard Training Programs (NST) Programs
NST programs provide clinical training for foreign national physicians in advanced subspecialty programs for which there is no ACGME or ABMS accredited/certified program. Foreign national physicians with J-1 visas are no longer allowed to be sponsored by a non-ACGME program unless the program is approved for Non-Standard Training (NST) recognition from the ACGME.
Any UCSF Non-ACGME program that plans to sponsor or recruit a trainee with a J-1 visa must apply for Non-Standard Training (NST) Recognition from the ACGME. The application must be submitted for review and approval by the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).
