Core Teaching Skills

What it is: Core Teaching Skills Workshops are 1 hour sessions for faculty to develop basic skills in a variety of areas.

Who it is for: These sessions target everyone at ucsf who teaches or supervises learners, regardless of their academic background or interest.

What to expect:  These sessions are typically 1 hour, virtually using zoom, and dates will be added on an ongoing basis so check back frequently. CME credit available. 

How to register: 

  1. View workshops and available times described below and click Register.
  2. Click Enroll me button to enter your MyAccess credentials if you are not already logged in to MyAccess.
  3. Once Enrolled, choose an available date to complete registration. 
AI in Education: Versa Chat Gen AI Basics for Educators

You’ve heard about ChatGPT and other generative AI (gen AI) platforms, but do you know how to use gen AI effectively? In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to use UCSF’s secure gen AI platform called Versa Chat, and discover concrete ways to make it useful in your education practice. IMPORTANT!  Access to UCSF Versa Chat is required for the workshop activities. Fundamentals of Anti-oppressive and Anti-racist Education

In this 1-hr session we will discuss foundational concepts underpinning anti-oppressive and anti-racist education practices, and provide participants with some initial tools to apply a trauma-informed lens to their own teaching.

In-the-moment Feedback 

In this skill-oriented session, participants will learn the principles of growth-mindset focused feedback, and practice application of a simple framework for feedback discussions with learners in every-day education encounters.

Large Group Teaching

The workshop will cover how to organize and deliver a clear lecture with an effective introduction and conclusion, concrete learning objectives, and techniques to equitably and inclusively engage all learners. Attendees will apply the skills learned in the workshop to their own examples of large group teaching and receive actionable feedback.

Microaggressions in the Learning Environment 

This practical workshop will focus on recognizing bias and microaggressions in learning environments, and introduce participants to basic skills to mitigate microaggressions when they occur.
