Getting Started at UCSF

  • Housestaff Information Booklet is updated frequently and contains central GME policies you need to know.

  • Information on licensing, including a tipsheet, is available on our Medical License and Other Registrations page.

  • License and USMLE Reimbursement Program: Residents and fellows in ACGME, Non-ACGME and ABMS programs pay out of pocket their USMLE Step III, new license, and renewal fees during their current appointment year. The fees may be eligible for reimbursement by their departments. When departments reimburse trainees for the fees, departments will then submit a quarterly funds transfer request form to GME finance through UCSF Box for reimbursement for ACGME and ABMS programs only. Non-ACGME programs are not reimbursed by GME resources.
