UCSF is dedicated to advancing health worldwide, and we are proud to train the next generation of physicians and physician-scientists who will lead with purpose, compassion, and innovation. Our Graduate Medical Education programs are built on a foundation of excellence, equity, and discovery—designed to empower residents and fellows to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment where they are supported, challenged, and inspired every day. Here, you won’t just learn medicine—you will shape the future of it. If you're driven by curiosity, a passion for service, and a commitment to making a global impact, this is where your journey begins.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications for residency and fellowship training are processed through the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS) unless otherwise specified by the training program. UCSF School of Medicine participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), or the San Francisco Match, for the majority of our residency and fellowship training programs. Some programs may engage in a standard recruitment process, outside the match, based on their specialty requirements.
For information on eligibility for appointment, prerequisites, as well as California licensure requirements, please see our Recruitment, Selection, Eligibility and Appointment policy.
For information on the application process and eligibility criteria for your specialty, please visit the training program’s website. Programs that have a mandatory VA rotation will require proof of Selective Service Registration or Proof of Exempt status for individuals who are designated as male on their birth certificates.

Welcome!
