Though many health professionals have strong clinical skills, they lack some low-cost, low-technology skills that would allow their clinical experience and knowledge to be applicable in the global setting. These topics and skills include health system design, value chain mapping, leadership training, and ultrasound skills. Hence, the UCSF Global Health Core, within the division of Hospital Medicine, has fashioned a continuing medical education program to cover these topics using simulation, hands-on training, and workshops exploring effective global health delivery programs. The Kanbar Center at UCSF will be utilized to simulate real-life scenarios to improve global ethics and clinical training skills. Attendance is limited to a group of 36 learners to allow for small group sessions, intimate workshops and active discussions. Experienced inter-professional UCSF faculty as well as international experts on Global Health Delivery will lead the sessions.
