Confessions of a Black, DeafBlind Audiologist with Usher Syndrome

Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Add to Calendar 2024-03-28 23:00:00 2024-03-29 00:00:00 Confessions of a Black, DeafBlind Audiologist with Usher Syndrome UCSF Healthcare Advocates for Social Justice invite you to join us on Thursday, March 28th at 4PM for a discussion called “Confessions of a Black, DeafBlind Audiologist with Usher Syndrome.” The talk will feature disability advocate, author, motivational speaker, and audiologist, Dr. Jasmine Simmons. Dr. Jasmine holds a doctorate in audiology from Central Michigan University with an undergraduate degree from the University of Akron. She was born profoundly deaf and is facing progressive vision loss from Usher’s Syndrome. Her unique perspective fuels her advocacy for inclusivity in healthcare and empowerment. This lecture is free to attend but donations to the Usher Syndrome Coalition are strongly encouraged. This event was planned by a diverse group of UCSF staff who organized in response to the ongoing racial injustices. The goal of the UCSF Healthcare Advocates for Social Justice monthly speaker series is to promote critical thinking and action around intersectional structures of power, privilege, and racial oppression in clinical care, education, and beyond. We will continue to highlight the efforts of community antiracism activists.
