Charisse Ahmed, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing, a Research Fellow with the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research in Zambia, and a faculty lecturer for CGN's Certificate in Global Nursing. In 2023, Dr. Ahmed co-founded Mind Changers–Pals 4 Life (MCP4L), a grassroots advocacy and research group dedicated to strengthening mental health services and promoting equitable, community-driven approaches to health and well-being. Through her work, she is helping to amplify community voices, strengthen mental health services, and advance equitable, locally driven approaches to health and well-being.  Moomba Thornicroft, MPH, is a Zambian researcher, project manager, and social justice practitioner with over a decade of experience in gender-based violence prevention, mental health, faith engagement, and community development. She is the Founder and Executive Director of A Place Called Home-Ikhaya, a women-led organization addressing sexual violence against women and children. Moomba has led and supported the implementation of community-based research and interventions in partnership with local and international organizations, with a particular interest in trauma-informed approaches, faith-based responses to violence, and adolescent wellbeing.  Dr. Ahmed and Ms. Moomba were awarded CGN's 2025 Global Nursing Research Seed Award to advance their Church-Based Friendship Bench Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial, which focuses on community-engaged HIV and mental health interventions addressing sexual- and gender-based violence among adolescents in Zambia.  UCSF welcomes all participants to our events.
