The long-awaited Lloyd “Holly” Smith Distinguished Lecture is back with a scientific presentation—Cell Atlases as Roadmaps in Health and Disease—by pioneering scientist Aviv Regev.
Join this special event to honor the late Holly Smith for his visionary leadership and hear about Regev’s revolutionary discoveries.

About the Speaker
Aviv Regev is a computational and systems biologist focused on developing and applying experimental and computational algorithms to decipher intra- and intercellular circuits in cells in tissues. Regev joined Genentech in 2020, where she manages all aspects of early drug discovery and development. She also serves on the Corporate Executive Committee at Roche. Previously, she was an HHMI Investigator and Chair of Faculty at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
Regev’s groundbreaking project, Perturb-seq—developed during her tenure at the Broad Institute and in collaboration with scientists at UC San Francisco—combined single-cell RNA profiling with CRISPR-based genetic perturbations, showing how computational approaches could be used to dissect the molecular circuitry of the cell.
She’s also co-founding chair of Human Cell Atlas, an international research consortium that’s creating a reference map of human cells, from development, to adulthood, to old age.
The Lloyd “Holly” Smith Distinguished Lecture brings nationally and internationally recognized scientific leaders to Gladstone to share their novel research discoveries with our community. Gladstone has hosted the Distinguished Lecture Series since 1993. In 2014, the series was renamed to honor Lloyd H. ‟Holly” Smith, Jr., who served as a valuable advisor to Gladstone for many years.
