Objectives:
Identify the challenges in sickle cell disease (SCD) pain management in the Bay Area within the context of a history of social activism, social justice, and present-day gentrification.
Discuss partnerships between individuals with SCD, their families and health care providers that improve health equity and eliminate health disparities.
Utilize a cultural humility framework in considering strategies for optimal pain management for SCD.
