Manish Aghi, MD, PhD, MAS
Dr. Aghi is Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Neurological Surgery. He teaches medical students in the OR assist program, Parnassus Integrated Student Clinical Experience (PISCES), and in the neurosurgery clerkships, which he also directs. He serves as faculty advisor for the UCSF neurosurgery student interest group, directing a popular weekly seminar series and matching students with research mentors. Dr. Aghi teaches residents in the clinic and the OR, and also had a major role building the neuroscience curriculum for neurosurgery residents, who presented him with the Harold Rosegay Teaching Award in 2011. In his basic science lab, Dr. Aghi mentors postdoctoral fellows, residents, graduate students, medical students, and undergraduates. He received the Pathways to Discovery Long-Term Mentor Award in 2018 for his outstanding research mentorship. Dr. Aghi’s mission of advancing neurosurgical education and the impact of the education programs he has helped to build have been recognized by national neurosurgical organizations who have appointed him to create and lead courses for medical students and residents.
