Loren Alving, MD
Dr. Alving is Professor in the Department of Neurology, Director of the UCSF Fresno Alzheimer & Memory Center and UCSF Fresno Director of Undergraduate Curricular Innovation and Implementation, which includes roles as Fresno Director of the San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education (SJV PRIME) and co-director of LIFE, the Longitudinal Integrated Fresno Experience. Dr. Alving has taught UCSF medical students in Fresno for nearly two decades, and currently teaches third-year medical students in both LIFE and the neurology clerkship. She received the LIFE Neurology Teaching Award in 2011 and 2014, and the AME Excellence in Teaching Award in 2012. Dr. Alving is Co-chair of a Task Force to develop a UCSF SJV PRIME program that will launch in 2019. As a Teaching Scholar Program participant, she developed a project on foundational science in the clinical setting and has been participating in delivering the Foundational Science in F2 Day curriculum to medical students in Fresno. Dr. Kenny Banh, Director of Undergraduate Medical Education at UCSF Fresno says, “Dr. Alving has been instrumental in bringing UCSF curriculum, culture and ecosystem to our campus which has greatly increased our ability to recruit and retain UC students.
