Annette Carley, RN, DNP, NP
Clin Prof & Assoc Dir of DNP
I am dually certified as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, (PPCNP-BC) and have over thirty years of clinical experience in neonatal and pediatric care. Since 1995 I have been affiliated with the UCSF School of Nursing as a clinical faculty member; from 2015 through 2019, I held the role of Neonatal Specialty Coordinator and oversaw the reopening of this MS program specialty. I view myself as a neonatal/pediatric generalist and am interested in many neonatal and pediatric health issues such as nutrition and growth, and pulmonary, gastrointestinal, neurologic and hematologic physiology and pathophysiology. I am also very invested in provider development and mentoring.
Over the years I have cultivated an interest in curriculum development and the integration of technology into nursing education; I first became immersed in distance-based teaching as lead clinical faculty for a SF-based student cohort enrolled in our dual-campus NNP training program. I have continued to develop innovative educational programs and held a lead role in development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at UCSF, the first program of its kind to be approved in the UC system. Since 2018 I have been faculty and Associate Director of the DNP Program and oversee the three in-person intensives (N263 DNP Prologue, N263.1 DNP Immersion and N263.2 DNP Epilogue) as well as multiple online courses such as our core theory (N263.11) and informatics (N263.19) courses and the practicum course series (N463.1) that supports leadership development activities. I have chaired multiple DNP projects, with topics focusing on education, provider development and care across the lifespan and levels of acuity. I enjoy working with DNP students as they explore their leadership and develop their scholarly projects.
