Aaron Harries, MD

Associate Professor

Dr. Aaron Harries is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine (EM) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and works clinically as an Emergency Physician at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Emergency Department. Aaron is a true product of the University of California education system, earning his undergraduate degree from UCLA, medical degree at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, his EM residency at Alameda County Medical Center (Highland Hospital), and his EM Global Health Fellowship at UCSF. His fellowship focus was on EM medical education and systems development in Uganda.

Aaron's academic interests are in medical education, medical student advising, global health/disaster medicine, point-of-care ultrasound use in low resource settings, and documentation improvement. He has worked in disaster response in post-earthquake Haiti and in the Philippines after typhoon Haiyan. Aaron has also taught medicine internationally in Kenya, South Sudan, Haiti, Thailand/Burma border, and Uganda. He serves as a member of the UCSF EM Global Health Section and a Global Affiliate of the Institute for Global Health Sciences. Aaron is the Director- Physician Advisor for Clinical Documentation Integrity for Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. He is also the Co-Director for EM Medical Student Education at UCSF and loves teaching medical students about the exciting and rewarding specialty of Emergency Medicine.

Aaron is a recipient of the UCSF Differences Matter DEI Champion Training, and a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators (AME) serving on the AME Mentorship Action Group.
