Treating COVD 19 Patients

Is it still the case that students aren’t allowed to see people who do not have negative COVID test? Are all clerkships sites aware of this so we don’t feel weird when we remind them?

Answer

Our policy is that you should not be involved in the direct, in-person provision of care for patients who either have known COVID or are strongly suspected of having COVID.  Clerkship and site directors are made aware of this policy.

Your interaction with patients is dependent upon PPE availability. If enhanced PPE is required, you would not participate in treating patients. However, if a patient had COVID, and is now cleared by hospital epidemiology/infection control, and the patient no longer requires enhanced PPE, you could treat that patient.
