UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care Yearlong Fellowship for UCSF Medical Students
Purpose
The UCSF Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care Yearlong Fellowship will support the department’s longstanding mission to train and foster the development of the next generation of physician-scientists in anesthesiology. One fellowship will be awarded per year to a medical student interested in exploring basic, translational, or clinical research in areas that are relevant to anesthesiology and the perioperative sciences, including critical care and immunology, neurosciences and pain, bioinformatics and data science, outcomes, health equity, and implementation sciences. In addition to hands-on research, the fellow will participate in Department of Anesthesia research events, including weekly seminars and the annual Anesthesia Research Day symposium, and will have the opportunity to network with anesthesia research residents, fellows, and faculty.

Requirements
- Medical students taking taking a year off for full-time research.
- Eligible UCSF faculty mentor or co-mentor from Department of Anethesia and Perioperative Care. A list of mentors relevant to this opportunity can be found here.
- Completion of an MD with Distinction.
- Production of a legacy project approved by the student's Distinction in Yearlong Research committee.
- Participation in Department events and seminars as listed above.
- Oral and poster presentations at year-end UCSF Inquiry Symposium
- Students are only able to receive funding for 1 year, additional years of research are not able to be funded by the Inquiry Funding Office.
