Palliative Medicine Summer Exploration Program for Underrepresented in Medicine Students
The program also includes opportunities to spend time with the mentor and/or other DPM faculty and interdisciplinary team members in clinical settings and attend educational division events.
Participants can work with a faculty member to develop a new idea for a project, or can join ongoing projects, with examples of these including examining health care disparities in outpatient palliative care practices and providing support for family caregivers. Projects would be done with close faculty mentorship.
The UCSF Division of Palliative Medicine (DPM) is pleased to offer a fully funded 8-week summer program providing the opportunity for students who identify as underrepresented in medicine (UIM)* to explore the field of palliative care while developing a scholarly project.

To apply, please submit a brief (one paragraph) statement explaining your interest in palliative medicine to [email protected] by the Summer Explore Deadline (March 1, 2024). Please also feel free to reach out with additional questions about the program. We recognize that many students are applying for UCSF SOM summer funding opportunities, as well, and would encourage applying for both.
