Motivational Interviewing Introductory Workshop

Wednesday, October 02 at 9:30 am - 4:30 pm Add to Calendar 2019-10-02 09:30:00 2019-10-02 16:30:00 Motivational Interviewing Introductory Workshop Dr. Jessica Keyser (UCSF Eating Disorders Program) and Dr. Jennifer Manuel (San Francisco VA Health Care System) will be holding a two-day workshop on motivational interviewing, sponsored by the Division of Child and Adoelscent Services. This workshop is open to Department of Psychiatry-affiliated facilty, staff, and psychology/psychiatry trainees. Continuing medical education (CME) credits will be available for participants. If you wish to attend, please register in advance at https://psychiatry.ucsf.edu/MIworkshop. ---------- Description of activities: Day 1 - Tuesday, October 1 (required): Didactics around the philopsophy of motiviational interviewing and techniques Day 2 - Wednesday, October 2 (optional, but highly recommended): Further review of motivational interviewing techniques and experiential exercises to practice skills ---------- Learning objectives: At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to: Identify three factors represent the spirit of motivational interviewing Define OARS skills Differentiate change from sustain talk, and identify two strategies to elicit change talk ---------- About the presenters: Jessica D. Keyser, PhD, is a health sciences associate clinical professor in the UCSF Eating Disorders Program and Department of Psychiatry. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Temple University and completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC). Prior to her work at UCSF, she worked in the Addication and Health Psychology Programs at SFVAMC, where she started an intensive motivational interviewing training seminar for staff and trainees. Dr. Keyser was trained in motivational interviewing through the comprehensive VA motivational interviewing roll-out and was recruited as a national VA motivational interviewing consultant. Jennifer K. Manuel, PhD, is a health sciences assistant clinical professor in the Departmetn of Psychiatry and the associate director for psychology in the UCSF Center of Excellence in Primary Care Education. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of New Mexico and completed her clinical internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Prior to joining the San Francisco VA Health Care System, she was the program evaluator for the VA Central Office Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Enhancement Therapy Programs.. ---------- This workshop is for educational purposes and intended for a professional audience only.
