Priya Kathpalia, MD

Dr. Priya Kathpalia is a gastroenterologist and Medical Director of Motility at UCSF Health where she specializes in the diagnosis and management of various esophageal motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and eosinophilic esophagitis. In addition to performing upper endoscopies and colonoscopies, she has specialized training in esophageal manometry, Bravo, pH-impedance, PillCam, SmartPill, and EndoFLIP studies.
After earning her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Kathpalia completed a residency in internal medicine at Loyola University Medical Center, where she also served as chief resident. Kathpalia then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCSF, where she trained with international experts in esophagology.
Kathpalia belongs to the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, where she serves on the Training Committee. She also serves on the editorial board for Gastroenterology. Her passion - in addition to esophageal disorders - lies in medical education related to curricular development and motility, and she serves as Associate Program Director for UCSF's GI fellowship program.
