Biftu has been a clinician-educator in the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Division of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences since 2017. She works clinically in Labor and Delivery, Gynecology and Family Planning at ZSFG. She is currently the Medical Director of Inpatient Obstetrics, the Assistant Residency Program Director and the Associate Director for Innovating Education in Reproductive Health. Her interests in medical education center around abortion and contraceptive training, incorporating equity and inclusion into the learning environment, curricular development as well as trainee and program evaluation. She led a video series on provision of long-acting reversible contraceptives for clinicians jointly sponsored by Innovating Education and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Biftu is also the co-creator of an ongoing OBGYN grand rounds series titled “Microaggressions M&M” where issues of equity and inclusion within the Department of OBGYN are reviewed department-wide. She is a lead developer of an online, justice-informed curriculum titled Structures and Self: Advancing Equity and Justice in Sexual and Reproductive Health Care with Innovating Education. She additionally is developing a curriculum on racial literacy in family planning for family planning fellows and faculty. In her role as Assistant Residency Program Director, she is involved in curriculum development and development of novel trainee evaluation methods for OBGYN residents.
