Andrew Goldberg, MD, MS

Professor

Andrew N. Goldberg, MD, MSC, is a Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology and he is the Roger Boles, MD Endowed Chair in Otolaryngology Education. Dr. Goldberg specializes in General Otolaryngology, Minimally Invasive Skull Base Surgery, Sinus Surgery and Rhinology, and Snoring and Sleep Apnea Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his medical degree from Boston University, MA, and he completed a one-year internship at the Los Angeles County-Harbor/UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Goldberg completed his residency from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine Eye and Ear Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology of Cancer from the National Cancer Institute, Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Philadelphia, PA. He also completed a Clinical Epidemiology MSCE at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Goldberg’s principle research interest involves the application of basic science techniques in determining the causes of and treatment for chronic sinusitis. His research program includes evaluating patient quality of life and clinical outcomes, imaging of the airways in patients with obstructive sleep apnea, development of medical and surgical devices to treat sleep apnea, and optimization analysis of diagnosis of the site of obstruction of sleep apnea through drug induced sleep endoscopy. In 2000, Dr. Goldberg established the Center for Clinical Research in Otolaryngology (CCRO), an interdisciplinary center of research in patient outcomes for otolaryngology-head and neck surgery that supports research-based care.

Dr. Goldberg is a UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators awardee, Excellence in Direct Teaching. He is a member of over 10 medical societies and academies. Dr. Goldberg has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles, and he has contributed to over 40 book chapters.
