Eating Disorders FBT Caregiver Group
This special group session is only for caregivers of patients undergoing treatment in the UCSF Eating Disorders Program. Registration is required.
------
What is this group all about?
This caregiver-only group is designed as an adjunct to family-based treatment (FBT), with the goal of provinding additional education about eating disorders and FBT, and for families to seek support from one another. Eating Disorders Program clinicians will provide teaching on topics relevant to eating disorders treatment and facilitate group discussion.
Who can attend?
This group is designed for parents or other caregivers of youth currently receiving FBT in UCSF's Eating Disorders Program. Caregivers may attend any of all of the meetings!
What if FBT is going smoothly?
You may still benefit from talking with and learning from other caregivers in similar situations, and you might also provide support or encouragement to other caregivers who are more challenged by their child's eating disorder. We are also open to feedback about what type of topics would be most helpful to families. If you have any questions about attending the group, please discuss them with you FBT clinician.
Why not include youth, or offer a separate group for youth?
We believe strongly in empowering caregivers to facilitate recovery. Our goal is for youth to remain firmly involved in their lives and to not overly identify with an eating disorder.
How do I register?
Simply let you FBT clinician know what date(s) you plan to attend. For planning purposes, please let us know whether other caregivers in your child's family will attend as well.
