Financial Planning

  • Retirement Planning: Human Resources resident and fellow retirement planning and benefits page have information on the trainee's safe harbor plan and other retirement planning options
    • Residents and clinical fellows are automatically enrolled in the Safe Harbor Defined Contribution Plan. Pre-tax contributions to 403(b) or 457(b) plans are optional.
       
  • Financial Literacy Resources:  The AAMC has collaborated with American Student Assistance (ASA) to help academic medicine community members strengthen their financial literacy and money management skills and developed financial literacy resources. ASA's program, SALT™, is a financial education and engagement program that empowers students and alumni to manage, pay for, and pay back college costs while improving their financial literacy skills. SALT's financial education resources are now available to medical students, residents, faculty, and staff at AAMC-member institutions.
     
  • Blumberg Loans: The Blumberg Loan is an interest-free loan that was established through the Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME) to financially assist UCSF residents and clinical fellows. Residents and clinical fellows may request a loan from a month prior to their training start date through five months prior to their training end date. The loan may be in the amount of $1,200, $2,400 or $3,600. For all loans, including those requested prior to starting date, the GME contract must be completed and signed, in both MedHub and OLPPS entry must be completed.   • Flexible Spending Accounts: Residents and fellows may elect to sign-up for dependent care and healthcare flexible spending accounts, which allow the employee to put aside pre-tax dollars to use for eligible healthcare and/or dependent care expenses. Discount Programs

  • Discounts: Campus Life Services provides discounts to the UCSF community, including shopping, activities, events, and more.
  • Affordable Connectivity Program :  With the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program, you can save up to $30/month on your internet service and receive upto $100 device discount for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50). Only one monthly service discount and one device discount is allowed per household. Not every internet company offers device discounts.
    • Eligibility
      • Enrolled in government programs like CalFresh, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, etc.
      • Participate in FCC Lifeline.
      • Receive Pell Grant
      • Have a household income of $55,500 or less for a family of four.
