Core Teaching Skills

What it is: Core Teaching Skills Workshops are 1 hour sessions for faculty to develop basic skills in a variety of areas.

Who it is for: These sessions target everyone at UCSF who teaches or supervises learners, regardless of their academic background or interest.

What to expect:  These sessions are typically 1 hour, virtually using zoom, and dates will be added on an ongoing basis so check back frequently. CME credit available.

You’ve heard about AI and the new possibilities it brings, but do you know how to use gen AI effectively? In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to use UCSF’s private, secure gen AI platform called ChatGPT Enterprise, and discover how it can enhance your practice as an educator or staff member. In-the-moment Feedback 

In this skill-oriented session, participants will learn the principles of growth-mindset focused feedback, and practice application of a simple framework for feedback discussions with learners in every-day education encounters.

Large Group Teaching

The workshop will cover how to organize and deliver a clear lecture with an effective introduction and conclusion, concrete learning objectives, and techniques to equitably and inclusively engage all learners. Attendees will apply the skills learned in the workshop to their own examples of large group teaching and receive actionable feedback.

Microaggressions in the Learning Environment 

This practical workshop will focus on recognizing bias and microaggressions in learning environments, and introduce participants to basic skills to mitigate microaggressions when they occur.

Facilitating with Flair: Small Group Teaching to Support Effective Individual & Group Learning

This session targets all faculty who facilitate learners of any level of training. Participants will learn the basic principles of effective small group facilitation, including strategies to create an inclusive learning environment in small groups.
