*BEFORE YOU APPLY

  • Make sure to check your eligibility! Check the RAPtr website for eligibility and funding limits before you begin. Stay aware of University policies regarding student research funding and program-specific deadlines and requirements. Also review information for students in your School, as there can be specific departmental requirements for students in Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy. For international work, read the UCSF Trainee Travel Policy regarding countries that carry a State Department Warning , and SOM applicants also need to read the Training Affiliation Agreement Policy.
  • Take note of the link to provide expenses: If you receive a grant that will reimburse you vs. a stipend, you will need to submit receipts via the following link: Student Expense Reimbursements
  • Prepare your mentor!

Before you submit your application, you must meet with and prepare your research or international rotation mentor to fill out the mentor form:

For Research Mentors:

  • Provide your research mentor with the research mentor instructions from the RAPtr website so they can prepare ahead. Alert your research mentor to the deadline of 5 p.m. for submission of their endorsement form, including their NIH-style biosketch.

  • After you submit your application, you'll receive a confirmation email with the following instructions: "You'll soon receive another email within 24 hours containing a link to the PDF of your application. Check it for accuracy and forward it to your mentor along with the link to the mentor endorsement form. Your mentor must meet the 5 p.m. application deadline!"

For Clinical Rotation Mentors:

  • Provide your international rotation mentor with the global health mentor instructions from the RAPtr website so they may prepare ahead.

  • Attach the Global Health Elective Course Objectives Form you filled out with your mentor. Rotation mentors do not need to submit NIH-style bio-sketch.

Note: The recommendation letter process has changed (beginning 2016/17). Students will no longer upload recommender letters to their application. Instead, students will forward a recommender form link to each of their recommenders. Once the recommenders complete the form by uploading their letters, the forms will be routed to the students’ application.
