Consistently ranked among the nation's top medical schools, the UCSF School of Medicine earns its greatest distinction from its outstanding faculty – among them are six Nobel laureates, 114 National Academy of Medicine members, 73 American Academy of Arts and Sciences members, 55 National Academy of Sciences members, and 22 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators. Most recently, the UCSF School of Medicine was the only medical school in Tier 1 for primary care and research as ranked by US News & World Report in 2024.

Within the city, residents and fellows will have opportunities to treat a diverse patient population and learn from esteemed faculty at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center and many other sites and clinics all over the city that make up the UCSF Health System.

Across the Bay from San Francisco is UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital Oakland. Like San Francisco, the Oakland's rich and unique history is evident in a vibrant arts scenes and diverse dining options. The East Bay boasts expansive regional parks and frequent local festivals as well.
