Dr. Michelle Guy is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where she is a passionate clinician-educator dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students and trainees across all educational settings. She leads faculty development programs focused on mentoring across differences, addressing implicit bias, and creating equitable and inclusive educational practices. A nationally recognized speaker, Dr. Guy frequently lectures on these topics, inspiring educators and leaders to embrace inclusivity in their work.
In 2017, Dr. Guy was inducted into the prestigious UCSF Academy of Medical Educators, honoring her exceptional contributions to medical education. She also serves as the Director of Community, Opportunity, Retention, and Engagement for Graduate Medical Education at UCSF, one of the largest GME programs in the country. In this role, she oversees recruitment strategies and works to ensure equitable and comprehensive-review practices for over 1700 residents and fellows across numerous residency and fellowship programs.
As a clinician, Dr. Guy is an Internist, Primary Care physician, and Obesity Medicine specialist, providing compassionate care to patients with complex chronic conditions. Her contributions to clinical care have earned her numerous accolades, including the UCSF Health PRIDE Exceptional Clinician of the Year Award, induction into the Gold-Headed Cane Society, and recognition as a Top Physician by Marin Magazine. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Guy teaches obesity medicine to first-year medical students and lectures nationally on inclusive care for patients with obesity. She has also contributed to the American Board of Obesity Medicine as an item writer for their certification exam and served on their board.
Dr. Guy earned her B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan, her medical degree from the University of Missouri—Columbia and completed her residency in Primary Care at Cambridge Health Alliance—Harvard Medical School, where she also served as Chief Resident. Since joining UCSF’s Division of General Internal Medicine, she has continued to make a profound impact on clinical care, medical education, and leadership.
