Geoffrey Stetson, MD

Assistant Professor, School of Medicine Coach

I am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine. After receiving a degree in Biology at Brown University in 2007, I spent a year working for a non-profit in Nicaragua focused on public health and community development. I then attended the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine where I completed his MD in 2012. I then went on to train in the San Francisco Primary Care track at UCSF, a pathway within the Internal Medicine Residency focused on providing general internal medicine care to vulnerable and underserved populations. While in residency, I completed two areas of distinction by receiving extra training and completing projects in Health Equities and Advocacy, as well as Health Professions Education. Following this training, I came to the San Francisco VA to practice internal medicine as an Academic Hospitalist.

Currently, my clinical activities at the San Francisco VA include attending on the adult medicine wards, individually managing acute and chronically ill hospitalized adults, co-managing hospitalized orthopedic and neurosurgical patients, and supervising trainees to perform common hospital-based procedures. Academically, my pursuits are focused on improving the quality of medical education both at the UME and GME level. I have done this through building online learning modules for GME learners to continue their content acquisition asynchronously. I have also studied the use of tablet-based white board applications as a teaching tool on the inpatient medicine wards. I am also interested in faculty development for teaching with technology. In addition to this work, I developed the curriculum, and serve as the course director for an elective the focuses on providing guidance and opportunities to help senior residents to practice becoming better clinical educators. I have parlayed this experience into multiple professional development workshops with the intention of building a education workforce that creates a safe and growth-oriented learning environment. Lastly, I direct the Professional Identity Formation curriculum for UCSF UME learners.
