Medical License and Other Registrations

All UCSF residents and fellows must have an NPI number prior to starting their training. Residents and fellows are also required to comply with State of California medical licensure laws. In addition, all licensed residents and fellows (with the exception of trainees in the departments of Pathology and Radiology), must complete DEA, PECOS, and CURES registrations as soon as they receive their license from the California Medical Board. Trainees with a CA training license (PTL) are eligible and advised to obtain their DEA upon receiving their training license (PTL); however, PGY1 residents are not permitted to use their DEA until they advance to their PGY2.
