Teaching Procedural Skills

This is a teaching activity that takes careful planning to ensure that the learner makes progress toward mastering a skill. The workshop will incorporate didactic points about teaching procedures and offer opportunities for the participants to practice. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: Translate the six steps of curriculum development into procedure teaching. Describe the conceptual framework of deliberative practice as it applies to teaching procedures. Demonstrate the conceptual framework by simulating procedure education. Give effective feedback on learning performance in a real-time patient-care setting. Set personal goals for applying the skills learned in this workshop to one's own practice setting, and review a tool designed to assess performance of new teaching skills.       UCSF is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 267 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The above credit is inclusive of all UCSF Educational Skills Workshops and the Teaching Scholars Program. Credit available for this event only is 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
