Welcome New Staff

Medical Education welcomed six new staff members this fall. Please join us in welcoming these new staff to our units!  

Mahdi Ardestani 

Admissions Student Experience Team

Mahdi Ardestani started as the Medical Student Education Operations and Special Projects Manager. Mahdi comes to us from Omada Health, a health-tech start up, where he was a key part of the people and operations team. Before that Mahdi worked at UC Berkeley’s Counseling and Psychological Services and he’s excited to be back in a higher education setting. Mahdi studied philosophy at Berkeley as an undergraduate and his hobbies/interests include playing soccer, exploring new cities and the outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and trying new eats.

Cindy Chu

Curriculum Coordinator, Assessment Curriculum Evaluations (ACE)

Cindy Chu is a new Curriculum Coordinator in the Assessment, Curriculum, Evaluations Team. She currently works on the Health and the Individual, Regulation, and  Intersessions courses. Cindy comes to us from Stanford University where she worked in the Development Office and previously as the program coordinator for the Physician Assistant Program. When she is not wedding/event planning (her second job), she enjoys hiking with her dog, exploring food in different towns/cities, and dominating others in foosball and table tennis.

Joseph Cook

Research Analyst, Center for Faculty Educators

Joe Cook joined the Center for Faculty Educators in October 2016 as a part-time Research Analyst, primarily working with Dr. Bridget O’Brien on a study of the Interprofessional Standardized Patient Experience. Joe is currently in the 2016-2017 Teaching Scholars Program and splits his time between Medical Education and the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. At the Osher Center, Joe does educational program development for a clinical fellowship in Integrative Medicine and provides data management support to the Osher Center’s research program. In his spare time, Joe plays with his kids, plays guitar and tabla, builds things when he can, and works as a parent educator at a local parenting resource non-profit.

Julie Guo

Interview Coordinator, Admissions Student Experience (AsSET)

Julie Guo recently joined AsSET as the Interview Coordinator. Prior to joining UCSF, she worked at several colleges in the Bay Area. When not working, Julie often spends her time painting, reading, and volunteering for literary organizations. 

Rani Sandu

Program Manager, Technology Enhanced Education 

Rani joins UCSF from the corporate and technology worlds, with a wealth of experience in project, program and portfolio management; she will be assisting TEE in providing better overall communications processes for their project pipeline, and in will be working over the next year to move the Assessment Data Warehouse project and its associated initiatives forward.

Patrick Yuan

Research Analyst, Center for Faculty Educators

Patrick joined the CFE as a research analyst in October 2016. He is passionate about educating students and physicians to provide better patient care. Prior to joining the CFE, Patrick coordinated several social and behavioral science related projects designed to improve medical education in the Division of General Internal Medicine.  He enjoys reading, eating, traveling, and exercising in his spare time.
