Short-term Programs:

School of Medicine Dean's Summer Fellowships (Pathways Explore)

Eligibility: Only available to UCSF School of Medicine students who are not in MSTP or other advanced degree programs
Length: 8 week summer projects (MS1's and accepted students only)
Purpose: Funds clinical research, basic research, education research, and social science research
Requirements:

  • Must select a UCSF mentor/sponsor
  • Includes curricular activities

School of Medicine International Programs Grants

Eligibility: Only available to UCSF School of Medicine students, priority to Pathways to Discovery learners, who are not in MSTP
Award: $500-1,800 grant toward travel and living expenses (language programs are not eligible for funding)
Purpose: Funds certain expenses for students doing international projects, clinical electives, and health-related research
Requirements:

  • Work must be in one location and at least four weeks in length
  • Students can also apply for the School of Medicine Dean’s Fellowships and are encouraged to look into other UCSF or external funding opportunities
  • All applicants must complete the online international elective module prior to travel

Location: Applications for travel to countries with a State Department travel warning are approved on a case-by-case basis, and are more likely to be approved if the student is participating in an active UCSF program with faculty and staff in that country.

Pathways to Discovery Project Grants

Purpose: The Pathways Grant is a one-time, short-term, funding source available to all learners in the Pathways to Discovery Program on a quarterly basis. 
Pathways to Discovery Grants are intended to help support the completion of learner legacy products, including project expenses and dissemination costs (e.g., conference registration, poster printing). Priority will be reserved for direct project expenses.  Eligibility is restricted to previously unfunded learners.

Award: Typical funding for Pathways Grants is between $750 - $1250 with a cap for conference costs/travel expenses set at $500. All funded learners are required to submit receipts no later than six months after funding application date, per UCSF guidelines

Philip R. Lee Fellowships

Eligibility: Open to students and trainees from all UCSF schools
Length: 8 week Summer fellowships (under Pathways Explore)
Purpose: Funds a broad range of projects including research, advocacy, systems-change, and policy projects
Requirements: Includes curricular activities

PROF-PATH Fellowships

Eligibility: Available to all UCSF learners in health professional schools from health disparity populations who are interested in any field of research OR to learners with projects related to health disparities
Length: Yearlong and 12 week fellowships (open) and 8 week summer projects (MS1's only)
Purpose: Funds clinical and translational research as well as research projects in health professions education, cost-effectiveness, social and behavioral sciences, etc.
Requirements:

  • Includes curricular activities

Summer Curriculum Ambassador Program

Eligibility: Open to students from SOM and SOP
Length: 8 week Summer Program
Purpose: Embark on an eight-week immersive workplace learning experience designed to test the ideas, structures, and assumptions of the Bridges curriculum. This site is currently under construction while we prepare more information about this exciting opportunity! Global Health Clinical Scholars Project Grant

Eligibility: Open to GME students enrolle in the GH Clinical Scholars program
Purpose: The Global Health Clinical Scholars Project Grant is open to GME applicants who are enrolled in the GH Clinical Scholars program.  Scholars are eligible to apply for travel fund awards to help support their global health projcts.  IT hardware, including computers, tablets, and smartphones are not funded.  The awards are given on a quarterly basis in the amounts of $500-$3,000.
