Explore the historical development of interprofessional education over the past 30 years, identify its defining characteristics (aims, learning methods, outcomes), and discuss strengths and weaknesses of its various applications (classrooms, clinical areas, simulated environments).

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Engage in an interactive presentation about the historical development of interprofessional education and defining characteristics of interprofessional education/practice
  • Analyze in small group discussions strengths and weakness of current approaches to interprofessional education to related to its implementation in different settings

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • List the key historical developments of interprofessional education
  • Describe interprofessional education’s defining characteristics
  • Identify a range of issues linked to the successful implementation of this form of education

This workshop is one in a 12-part series covering fundamental issues in interprofessional education and practice. Workshops need not be taken in sequence.
