Project Description: African Americans and Hispanics are two groups underrepresented in the dental profession. Improving workforce diversity is often identified as a way in which healthcare could increase access to care and improve equity and equality. The purpose of our study is to examine national representative workforce data from African American and Hispanic dentists in the United States. We hope to ultimately identify trends in the African American and Hispanic dental workforce such as their past employment, level of education, practice demographics and other factors. Ultimately we plan to examine the effects of efforts to increase diversity in the dental profession and its relationship to improving access to care and reducing disparities.
