Louise Aronson MD, MFA, is the Director of Pathways to Discovery. She is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics where she cares for diverse, vulnerable older adults and directs the Northern California Geriatric Education Center, which provides geriatrics training to health professionals and trainees across northern California. She also directs the UCSF Medical Humanities program, serves as associate editor for the JAMA Care of the Aging Patient series, and is Director of Public Medical Communication for the Program for the Aging Century. Her research and scholarship focus on reflective learning, public medical communication, and geriatrics education. She is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators, a former Teaching Scholar and Medical Education Research Fellow at UCSF, and the author of A History of the Present Illness, stories which take readers into overlooked. Susan B. Promes MD, FACEP, is the Associate Director of Pathways for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Promes is a Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, the Director of Curricular Affairs, GME, Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Program Director of the new UCSF-SFGH Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Susan has significant experience in curriculum design and learner assessment at the UME, GME and CME level. Susan came to UCSF in 2007 from Duke University, where she also served as Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She is a graduate of the UCSF Teaching Scholars Program and a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators. She was honored with the Academy’s Teaching Excellence Award and the ACGME Courage to Teach Award. She serves as Course Director for the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship, is a member of the ACGME Emergency Medicine Residency Review Committee, and serves on the editorial board for the ACGME’s new journal, the Journal of Graduate Medical Education.
