--Concepts in Global HealthOnlineFor the Explore students going abroad who are not formally enrolled in the Global Health Pathway, this on-line class is required (unless GHS 101 has been taken). Introductory material will include modules addressing key concepts, as well as on-the-ground realities that students are likely to experience when they work abroad.
GHS 101Introduction to Global HealthWinter Quarter: January-MarchThe Introduction to Global Health course will cover major global health problems, the actions and approaches to addressing them. With assigned readings expected to be done before class, students will engage in debates, discussions in seminar style breakout groups. There will be the opportunity to explore global health careers. This is an elective course, but is a requirement for those planning to do the global health pathway. Online option is also available.
GHS 103Global Health Pathways Project and Career DevelopmentAugust-SeptemberThis course will survey key topics, concepts and vocabulary of global health practice and focus on the development and background work necessary to complete a scholarly project for the global health pathway. Students will study major global health challenges, strategies for responding to them, and key global health institutions. They will develop skills in project management and leadership for their future global health careers. Enrollment is restricted to Global health Pathway Program students.
GHS 211Global Health Clinical Scholars CourseSeptemberThis course will survey key topics, concepts and vocabulary of global health practice and focus on the development of a scholarly project for the global health pathway within advanced clinical programs. Participants will study key institutions in the global health arena, global health challenges and the strategies for responding to them, and develop skills in project management and leadership for their future global health careers. Enrollment is restricted to Clinical Scholars Program trainees.
--Longitudinal Works-in-Progress SeriesQuarterlyDuring these sessions, students who are working on projects will present their work and receive feedback, as well as further develop global health leadership skills. The series will meet quaterly, and attendance and participation will be required for Pathways completion.
