Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The Medical Education Service Award recognizes an outstanding OME staff person for their exemplary service to UCSF medical education:

  • Staff must be employed in the OME position for five or more years.
  • All OME staff (including Directors and Managers) are eligible.

Nominees must support the Office of Medical Education and includes:

  • All staff from departments and branches under the umbrella of the Office of Medical Education are eligible for nomination.
  • An outlined body of work demonstrating sustained excellence.
  • Meets the UCSF Pride Values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence) -

Submission Letters

Letters must demonstrate that each nominee’s performance exhibits one or more of the following characteristics in support of medical education:

  1. Contributes above-and-beyond his/her job description to activities, programs, or events resulting in increased educational value for SOM learners.
  2. Serves as a role model for teamwork and service to others.
  3. Makes the school and department or unit a better place to work and to learn by consistently demonstrating an open and helpful attitude and by communicating and working cooperatively with students, residents, colleagues, and faculty.
  4. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and inspires others to excel.
  5. Demonstrates and provides examples of how nominee exemplifies UCSF PRIDE Values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence) -

Submission of Nominations and Deadline

Any School of Medicine faculty member may submit a nomination (one per faculty member per year).

A completed nomination packet must include:

  • A primary nomination (maximum two pages) from a School of Medicine faculty member citing specific examples in as many of the five characteristics noted above as applicable. (The primary nomination must include the nominee's work title, department, and years of service to medical education at UCSF.)
  • An additional supporting letter (maximum one page) from any School of Medicine faculty or staff member (supervisor or colleague strongly encouraged).

All nomination materials are submitted online by Thursday, June 7, 2018. The primary nominator will receive emailed confirmation once the packet is complete.

Award Announcement

A committee comprised of Academy members and staff will review nominations and select one awardee. The award will be presented at the Academy's annual Celebration of New Members on September 26, 2018. (All nominees will receive a letter of recognition copied to their manager.)
