Registration is now open to attend the UCSF Education Showcase, March 19-21, 2017.

Please join us for keynote lectures, workshops and scholarly presentations on health professions education.  Click the links below to see the details of each day’s schedule and to register.

  • Sunday, March 19: Pre-Showcase Accelerated Path to Teach for UCSF Certificate Workshops (at Mission Bay, fees apply)
  • Monday March 20: Education Showcase: all events at Mission Bay
    • Visiting keynote: "Are we training for collective incompetence?  Three common educational assumptions & their unintended impact on healthcare teamwork." 
      Lorelei Lingard, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Founding Director and Senior Scientist of the Centre for Education Research and Innovation at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, Ontario, Canada.  Dr. Lingard is a leader in the field of rhetorical studies in medicine and qualitative methodologies.
  • Tuesday, March 21: Education Showcase: all events at Parnassus
    • Local keynote: "High Yield" Interprofessional Learning in the Workplace: For whom, how and why it matters.
      Rebecca Shunk, MDBridget O'Brien, PhD, and Anna Strewler, NP, leaders from the SFVA Center of Excellence in Primary Care Education.

About Education Showcase

  • Education Showcase is an annual event that features the scholarly work of UCSF students, residents, and faculty. Sponsored by the UCSF Center for Faculty Educators (CFE), and enhanced by visiting scholars, the event is filled with opportunities to see the variety and quality of the work our UCSF colleagues are engaged in throughout the year.
  • The Monday and Tuesday program features keynote lectures and peer-reviewed oral presentations reporting scholarly work in both undergraduate and graduate medical education. Faculty development workshops focus on education skills.
  • The Sunday program features workshops to accelerate progress in the Teach for UCSF Certificate Program.
  • December 2016: release of call for abstracts, abstract submission guidelines and abstract domains. Submission deadline January 24, 2017.

The Cooke Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The Cooke Award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning recognizes one or more outstanding projects presented at Education Showcase. Recipients in 2016 were:

  • Outpatient Systems Analyses - An Interprofessional Curriculum to Teach Patient Safety: Maya Dulay, MD, UCSF; Krista Gager, MS, AGNP-BC, SFVA, UCSF; Josue Zapata, MD, MBA, UCSF; David Margolius, MD, Case Western Reserve; Bridget O'Brien, PhD, UCSF; JoAnne Saxe, DNP, ANP-BC, FAAN, UCSF
  • Editing Wikipedia for medical school credit – results from four cycles of an elective for fourth-year students:  Amin Azzam, MD, MA; Lane Rasberry, Consumer Reports; James Heilman, MD, BSc, University of British Columbia; Kingsley Otoide; Jack McCue, MD; Valerie Swisher, BA, Content Rules; Fred Trotter, BS, DocGraph, Inc.; Evans Whitaker, MD
  • Each received a certificate of achievement and first authors received an honorarium.
