Award for Exceptional Service in Medical Education

All nomination materials are submitted online by Thursday, June 7, 2018. The primary nominator will receive emailed confirmation once the packet is complete.

About the Award

The Academy of Medical Educators’ annual Medical Education Service Award honors and recognizes exemplary service by Office of Medical Education (OME) staff in the School of Medicine who support medical education. Recipients are specially recognized in September at the Academy’s Celebration of New Members and will receive a framed certificate, acknowledgement by letter, and be an invited guest to our Celebration reception.

Ideal Nominee

This inaugural award nomination should showcase medical education staff who have gone above-and- beyond through their work in Medical Education, emblematic of prior recipients of the Academy’s Jaclyn Boyden Staff Award: Kathy Healy, Kevin Souza, Chandler Mayfield, Alison Ishizaki, and Bonnie Hellevig, or in the spirit of inspiring staff leaders such as former Academy Manager Cynthia Ashe, who found ways to integrate creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness in meeting the goals and mission of education at UCSF.

The inaugural Boyden Award winner, Kathy Healy, served as the Director of Student and Curricular Affairs, was awarded in 2004 and exemplified the following characteristics of this new Award for Exceptional Service in Medical Education:

  • Effective navigation through a complex institution and educational system and enabling her colleagues to do so as well
  • Approachability and consistent demonstration of positive interpersonal skills when addressing challenging situations
  • Selfless promotion of others and a commitment to teamwork
