Clinical Performance Exam (CPX) Preceptor

Responsibilities: 

  • Observe students in a standardized patient case and provide feedback on their H&P and communication skills during the encounter. For Mini-CPX 1, this observation takes place in the Kanbar Center media room as the encounter is happening. For Mini-CPX2 and CPX, this observation is watching the recorded encounters with the student after the exams.
  • Curricular Topics: History taking and physical exam skills, communication with patients

Faculty Development:

  • A teaching packet is sent ahead of time and we provide a brief orientation day of session

Qualifications:

  • Interest in and experience giving feedback on students' H&P and communication skills
  • Instructor:
    • Salaried UCSF faculty, post-doctoral fellows, Volunteer Clinical Faculty

Time Commitment: 

  • 2-4 hours
  • Dates of Instruction: vary each year, but take place during these months: Mini-CPX 1: April; Mini-CPX 2: October/November; CPX: June/July
